Students Charged Following Traffic Stop

A weekend traffic stop has resulted in alcohol-related charges against five people, four of them Shippensburg University students. Police stopped a car along McClay Avenue in Shippensburg just after 2:00 Sunday morning. Inside, officers discovered that the five females, all between 19- and 20-years-old, had been consuming alcohol. They all face charges of underage drinking. Police say none of those charged were driving the vehicle.

Transit Agency Announces Changes In Bus Lines

Capital Area Transit has announced changes to three of its bus routes effective May 1st. The Shippensburg-Newville Commuter Express line goes into effect, with stops in Park-and-Ride lots in Shippensburg and Newville, as well as the Carlisle Commons Shopping Center and the Naval depot in Mechanicsburg. Another change will involve Route C, which operates between downtown Harrisburg and Carlisle via Route 11. That bus will no longer make stops in the Camp Hill Shopping Center, which will continue to be served by Routes M and D. In addition, Route 7 buses to and from Middletown will now include stops in the Pineford Village development.

Police Looking For Burglary Suspects

State police are once again reminding the public to always keep their unattended cars locked. This after two residents of Countryside Mobile Estates in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, reported items stolen from their cars. Police say there may be even more victims. The thefts happened at around 3:15 Tuesday morning and police says witnesses did see suspicious activity in the area. Police are looking for two white males, possibly juveniles, one with short, blond, spiked hair, wearing a dark T-shirt and shorts. The other suspect was wearing blue jeans and a light-colored sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police in Carlisle.

Plans For Ethanol Plant Proceeding

A controversial plan to build an 85-million-dollar Ethanol plant west of Shippensburg has received an 11th-hour reprieve. The "Carlisle Sentinel" reports Pen-Mar Ethanol this morning made a 20-thousand-dollar deposit on a 55-acre tract of land in the Cumberland Valley Business Park. The company has thus far paid 60-thousand-dollars for the land, and has 90 days to pay the balance of two-point-two-million-dollars. The plant is projected to produce between 50-and 60-million gallons of the alternative fuel per year.

Scam Investigated In Shippensburg

State Police in Cumberland County are warning residents of a possible scam. An elderly Shippensburg man says he recently received a call from someone claiming to be from the New York State Gaming Commission, informing the man he was a sweepstakes winner. In order to collect his winnings though, the man has to pay a small handling fee. The man says he received a similar call later in the day, but said he refused to pay the fee and attempted to get the caller's name. He then called police. Authorities say the man did the right thing, and once again advised that you should not be required to pay up front for any prize winnings, and to always be suspicious when you're named the winner of a contest you did not enter.

Multiple Underage Drinking Arrests At Shippensburg Apartments

A number of people are facing underage drinking charges following a bust over the weekend. State Police responded to a disturbance at the College Park Apartments in Shippensburg early Sunday morning at around 4:00 to find a loud crowd and several individuals throwing beer bottles into the parking lot. At that time, police arrested 20-year-old Kimberly Harris of Philadelphia, 19-year-old Lisa Williams of Seven Valleys, and 19-year-old Sara DeVore of York. In a related incident, two others were caught trying to flee from the scene. 18-year-old Jennifer Benson and 17-year-old Jamie Sanden, both of Etters, were cited for for underage drinking by Shippenburg University.

Chambersburg Woman Killed In Interstate 81 Crash

A Chambersburg woman was killed early Saturday morning in an accident on Interstate 81 in Greene Township, Franklin County. Police say that 40-year-old Stacey Sawyer was traveling south around 3:30 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle and collided with a tractor-trailer driven by 38-year-old Bruce Hinman of Harrisburg. Sawyer died as a result of the crash. Hinman was taken to Chambersburg Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Traffic Stop Results IN A DUI Arrest

A Chambersburg man is facing charges of DUI following a traffic stop. Twenty-eight-year-old Martin Norah was pulled over by police Saturday at around 1:45 p.m. suspected of having illegal tinted windows. It was discovered at the time that Norah was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to the processing center at Carlisle where he was charged with equipment violations for his windows and driving while intoxicated.
