WSYC-FM Open House on Thursday, September 2 1-SEP-04

Swing by the student media center on the third floor of the CUB and join WSYC for our first open house of the semester. We'll have snacks and answer questions, and give tours and demonstrations of our facilites. Contact us if you have questions.

First general assembly meeting on Tuesday, September 7 29-AUG-04

This semester's premiere general assembly meeting will be at the usual time, 9:30 p.m., on Tuesday, September 7 in the CUB lounges. Freshmen and new recruits, look for our logo and smiling faces on the middle floor to the right of the main entrance. Go here for a tentative meeting schedule for the fall semester.

First staff meeting is this Tuesday 29-AUG-04

Our first staff meeting is 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31. It's an important one, so be there or be scowled at by all of your peers. We'll be gathering in the solarium nook just outside the student media area at the top of the CUB.

Surprise! The Webcast is back! 20-AUG-04

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, the webcast is back, and better than ever. After years of exile, our beloved stream has returned to Internet users worldwide. Get your fix with a couple of clicks. You can use the link on our main menu to the left, or click here for instructions.

The Webcast cometh 7-AUG-04

Yes, yes, it's coming. That's what they keep saying, those powers that be. It was supposed to be the 29th of July, but, you know... delays. We'll get there. Bear with us. Our sincerest apologies to our alumni overseas who have been waiting vigilantly for the streaming comfort of that ever-so-familiar college radio attitude.

August is here, and the next semester is upon us 7-AUG-04

Doesn't that sound ominous? Anyway, classes start on Monday, August 30, and so do WSYC radio shows. So if you've got a show slot, it is your responsibility to be behind the mic the first week of classes and for the rest of the semester. If you're not sure if you have one, when it is, or what to do, have your people call our people and we'll work it out. (Visit the staff page.)

Thanks for a great year! 10-MAY-04

To all WSYC members, staff, listeners and alumni, thanks for a great year! It was a busy one for WSYC: we got new studio space, new equipment, a new connection to our past, and we will soon see the return of the Webcast. We will have a limited live operation schedule this summer, but will continue to broadcast 24/7 as usual. Anyone interested in doing a show, get in touch!

A party worth having 2-MAY-04

For our first go, it went very well! Thanks to everyone who helped with the Grand Re-opening/Reunion events and to all the alumni who visited us during the celebration. We had a diverse group who shared lots of wisdom and anecdotes from our station's history. We're working on the chronicles now and will add what we've got this summer.

Alumni: how the heck are ya?

Hey you DJs and friends from yesteryear, we have not forgotten you! Many of you live on in legends of 'The Prime of the SYC Empire' (you know--'back in my day'). Well, believe or not, we're doing OK without you (more or less) but we don't ever want to lose touch. In fact, this site is pretty much dedicated to you. Please sign the guestbook and/or drop a line to Alumni Affairs. Maybe you can help us reconstruct the WSYC space-time continuum. And for all of you graduating this year, keep in touch! You have our number. We're building an alumni page just for you.

WSYC-FM Grand Re-opening Weekend 30-APR-04

Tonight and all day Saturday, join WSYC in celebrating four and a half decades of radio at Shippensburg University. The past year has been a big one for the station. We've got a new studio suite, membership is up, the Webcast is on its way back, and we're just getting started.

Help us wind down a great year at the Black Horse Restaurant and Tavern this evening, then bowl up a ruckus with the band Night Train of Terror at Park Lanes. Saturday, join us for panel discussions and station tours in the morning, a nice lunch in the Tuscarora room, a film screening and about 12 hours of live music in the CUB (and at the after-party) starting at noon. If Night Train To Terror joins the show as rumor has it, that's 10 bands for 10 bucks!

Visit the official event page here for an itinerary, or check out the concert info here.

Fall program schedule goes public 29-APR-04

Our preliminary program schedule for the fall semester is now online. DJs, check it out and make sure everything's in its right place (everything...). Prospective DJs, there are lots of slots open, and it's up to you to fill them. SU expects about 1800 new Freshmen in the fall, so we hope for a bountiful new crop of members in September.

Concert ticket sales begin today 28-APR-04

Buy now, win later! We're in the great room of the CUB this afternoon pre-selling tickets for Saturday's big double-header concert and showing off some of the WSYC merchandise sporting our new logo. You can order stuff now, and by buying a ticket you automatically enter to win something at the show. We'll announce the winners there and on our site. Stop by if you get a chance. For more information on the live music events, go here.
No purchase necessary for contest entry. Register to win at the ticket sales table.

Concert admission clarification 22-APR-04

It has come to our attention that some are confused about admission cost for the concerts. It's pretty simple: $1 gets you into the first set (local bands), $10 gets you into both sets. For more information on the live music events, go here.

Some seats remaining 17-APR-04

If you hoped to get into the the May 1 luncheon but missed the pre-registration deadline, don't give up. There are still some spots remaining. Get in touch with us right away if you want to reserve seats. Also, let us know if you would like to host an air shift or a panel discussion. Go here for more information.

Registration deadline extended 3-APR-04

Great news! Due to some delays in invitation mailings, the pre-registration deadline for the upcoming WSYC grand re-opening/reunion has been extended to April 15. If you expected an invitation and have not yet received one, just send us an e-mail with your contact information expressing your intentions and we'll mark you down as tentative. We will need your check by the 15th in order to make sure we have enough food at the luncheon, so don't wait! For more information on this event, go here.

The rape of WSYC 16-MAR-04

Two PCs and some other stuff were stolen from the station over spring break. An investigation is in progress. If you have any information regarding these aggregious acts against the station, please contact the campus police or WSYC.

The vote is in 2-MAR-04

WSYC members have selected this theme for the official logo for the station in the coming semesters.

Vote on our new logo 28-FEB-04

WSYC members, go here and take a look at the finalists in our call for new logo designs, then send us an e-mail with your vote.

Save your sister 28-FEB-04

Sound the alarm! Another low-wattage non-commercial station is in trouble and needs your help. WHHS 107.9 FM is a high school radio station run by the students of Haverford Senior High School, in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Though they are the nation's longest-running high school radio station, their future is in jeopardy! Go here, find out why, and help us keep them on the air.

Grand Re-Opening Party 20-FEB-04
Hey kids! Plans are brewing for a big bash in honor of our fair station this Spring. Clear your calendars for the weekend of April 30 through May 2, for a reunion/revival/reopening of sorts. We'll be showing off our new studios, hosting guest DJs from years past, eating, drinking, and having a jolly good time.

We are in the process of building an invitation list of WSYC alumni from the past few decades, so if you want to get on it, get in touch! Feel free to give us personal contact information for all of your friends from your years at the station, too! (We're sure they won't mind.) We'll keep you posted on the plans as they develop.

Live and Local 20-FEB-04
Who says there's no entertainment scene in Ship? WSYC sponsors shows all the time. Check out dates for our Live Music Series on the updated Events page. For more information or to get added into the mix contact Ashley, our local music director.

Webcast update! For those of you who just don't see the point in radio anymore, WSYC is planning on pandering to your technological needs as it has in the past. That's right, very soon, we plan on having our broadcast right here on the web. No more hitting seek on that radio dial. Not that it ever leaves 88.7 FM as it is, but...well, you know, just in case. Keep checking WSYC.ORG for updates! We are here for YOU! — Kyle Boyer, General Manager

THU 11 SEP 2003
Message from our GM: It has been a great summer and now that the new semester is in full swing, so too is WSYC! We are working with a BRAND NEW STATION! Getting things started may take a few weeks, but not to worry, we will be bringing you the best music as soon as humanly possible. In the mean time we will be broadcasting Red Raider Sports on Redzonemedia.com, so listen in if you want to. Anyone with any interest in radio at all should contact myself, the General Manager right away! We want you at to be one of the many people who have had the chance to work at WSYC. Have a great semester and I'll see you 'round the station! — Kyle Boyer, General Manager

Why are we off the air? The entire student media section of the third floor of the Cumberland Union Building was remodeled this summer, bringing brand new facilities to WSYC-FM, The Slate, and SUTV. Our studios were completely gutted, floor to ceiling, which required us to put all our stuff in storage for several months. But finishing touches are now being made, and we should all be back in business in the next month or so. We'll post some photos soon. The station should be back on the air before the end of September, but we have no official date set yet. We hope to begin broadcasting in a limited capacity next week. Stay tuned!

MON 25 AUG 2003
Welcome back, boys and girls! The new studio is gorgeous! Let's keep it that way when it opens for business sometime mid-month (that's September, we hope). Stay tuned for further updates and a new site. Staffpersons, please send volumes of news, updates, postings, and any requests for the site to the Webmaster.

FRI 21 FEB 2003
Rumorflash! Preliminary talks have been held to discuss the station's future on the webwaves. Several options are being examined. That's about all we can say at this point, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, Raiders fans can find some games Webcast at Red Zone Media.

Yes, with little fanfare, after a bit of down time while the station struggled to find a new Web administrator, the dot-org site is back up. You might be having a sensation of deja vu, since most of this has been republished from a 2001 version of the site. We're hoping the content will keep coming in so we can keep it fresh, but you know how it is—we'll see. Wish us luck. Your input and requests are welcome.

If you like to listen to music broadcast over the web, take a few seconds to fill out this form that will automatically contact your member of Congress and encourage support of legislation that seeks to prevent unfair and unaffordable performance royalties. WSYC can no longer broadcast over the Web because it is beyond our financial capacity. Help bring back WSYC's webcast!

AUG 2002
Apparently work on the new SU student media center on the third floor of the CUB has been postponed. Construction is now "scheduled" for summer 2003.

MAY 2001
UPDATE—Alas, the Webcast has been terminated. We're still trying to find an alternative, but new laws and the lack of an adequate free service will probably prevent us from resuming anytime in the near future.

20 APR 2001
UPDATE—Still looking, and still streaming through Webradio for now. We're going to try and see it through to the end of the semester. Don't ever say we don't care.

18 APR 2001
WSYC is trying to secure funding to extend Webcasting through Webradio.com, while simultaneously exploring alternatives. We're currently looking into a new venture called Frequency.net, but are still open to suggestions and assistance.

APR 2001
As of April 15, unless some kind of intervention occurs, WSYC will no longer have a Webcast partner and will therefore have no means of providing access to WSYC-FM's broadcast over the Web. Don't worry, we're looking into alternatives. Suggestions and recommendations for free or low-cost streaming audio providers are welcome. Please send all Webcast comments to the Webmaster.

FEB 2001
WSYC is currently working with The Slate, SU TV, CUB officials and other SU administrators to design a new SU student media center on the third floor of the CUB. Construction is slated to begin summer 2001.

MON 18 SEP 2000
Attention sports fans! Now you can tune into WSYC's Shippensburg University sports broadcasts on The Nauticom Sports Network.

WED 13 AUG 2000
– WSYC's e-mail addresses are working. If you had any trouble contacting the station or a staff member before, put your fears aside and try again. All staff members have an active "@wsyc.org" e-mail address now.

AUG 2000
If you hadn't noticed, our site is a bit different than it was last year. For one thing, it's in a different place. WSYC.org became the new home of WSYC's public Web presence last summer. We have a program schedule so you can know just when to tune in to hear your favorite music. We'll also have DJ profiles, so you can read up on your favorite DJ's interests, and even send them e-mail (ooh-ooh) and perhaps even chat with them live. Have any requests? We'll have a request box too. And of course, you'll also find the latest and greatest news from the WSYC-FM community, including local concerts and other events. First time here? Have something to say? Feeling lonely? Sign our (old) guestbook.

Friends, Romans, alumni, lend us your ears! Your favorite wholesale college radio outlet is now selling directly to common netizens all over the world. WebRadio.Com is serving up WSYC's broadcast stream to Web browsers worldwide with a Java-based Webcasting technology called Emblaze. Click here and take a listen. Oh, by the way, if you can't get us at WebRadio for some reason, just try back in a couple of minutes. If that doesn't work, try again tomorrow. You know how these things go. The technology is... shall we say... in its youth.
