Making financial contributions

There are two ways you can contribute to WSYC financially: (1) establish a WSYC donorship agreement with your business or organization, or (2) make a direct donation to the station through the SU Foundation.

WSYC donorship agreements

WSYC is a non-profit station and needs community support to continue operation. To become a WSYC donor, please contact the station at (717) 532-6006 or e-mail us.

What is WSYC donorship?

Since WSYC is a non-commercial station, WSYC cannot air commercials. We can, however, thank those who have helped us out with a tax-deductible gift. A WSYC donorship may contain the following information:

  • Name of business
  • A description of what the business does, what services it provides and what products it sells
  • Telephone number
  • Hours of operation
  • A non-comparative business slogan
  • Music in the background to enhance

First and foremost, remember that a donorship is not an advertisement. We do underwriting, which is essentially thanking a business for supporting us. We can also do something known as enhanced underwriting. The following is an illustration:

WSYC would like to thank YOUR BUSINESS for funding a portion of today's programming. YOUR BUSINESS offers this service, that service, and these products. YOUR BUSINESS is located at YOUR ADDRESS and is open YOUR HOURS. For more information, call YOUR PHONE NUMBER or visit YOUR WEB SITE.

Limitations for Non-Commercial Stations

The following are things that WSYC cannot do because we are a non-commercial station. If WSYC would be caught doing one of the following, a fine would be imposed by the FCC. The limitations are as follows:

  1. A donorship may not contain wording that promotes, compares, or urges listeners to take an action and/or stop by.
    EXAMPLE:
    Stop by and check out...
    Watch for...
    We're the best in Shippensburg...
Sandwiches made just the way you like...
  2. A donorship may not contain any monetary or descriptive discounts on products offered. EXAMPLE:
    Student discounts are available...
Receive 30 minutes of tanning free...
  3. A donorship may not contain any adjectives that go beyond identifying the products and services offered by a for-profit business. EXAMPLE:
Serving the Shippensburg area for 75 years...
Original gifts, fashionable clothing, fine collectables...

If you have any quesions, please call our business line at (717) 532-6006 and ask for the community contributions director or the business director.
